When you hear the word Disney, what comes to mind? Perhaps images of Snow White, Fantasia, or Mickey Mouse. Though everyone knows Disney movies, the man behind them is not as familiar. Walt Disney: The Triumph of the American Imagination "is an attempt to penetrate the image and decipher the mystery of Walt Disney--to understand the psychological, cultural, economic, and social forces that acted upon him and led to his art and his empire" (pg XX). It's an ambitious goal, but author Neal Gabler delivers Disney's elaborate biography including answers to rumors (like he was frozen) and character assucations (anti-semite and alcoholic). A must-read for those interested in American pop culture!
